Award Ceremony

May 4th, 2010 by randy

Wow! What a great day we had in Bismarck today with the Horizons people. All those involved do a wonderful job. Many thanks to Gayle Gette for being our leader and showing us the way. Special thanks to the NDSU Extention and the Northwest Area Foundation for providing the funding for Horizons. It was great to see the governor and take our picture with him. We truely realize how this has helped our community in many ways. Thanks again for your support and we look forward to reaching more goals for our community. By Sherri Thompson

School Youth Involved with Flood Meeting

April 29th, 2010 by claudette

On Monday, May 3rd, we have been encouraged to be in Devils Lake, lining the street from Proz End of the Line to the college.  It is our chance to make an impression on the Fema leaders and state legislatures.  The youth from Minnewaukan School were out this afternoon, going door to door, encouraging people to attend the Flood Meeting.  The school is offering bus rides to anyone interested.  Just call Rachael at the school for reservations.  The youth, grades 3 through 12 will be there!  We are all encouraged to wear RED.  It’s getting to the desperate stages needing action to control Devils Lake.  See you there!

Clean Up Days

April 29th, 2010 by claudette

I just can’t state enough how fortunate our community is.  So far we’ve scheduled two clean up work days and have gotten so much accomplished.  Last week we worked on the Legion Park on main street and Richard Peterson came with his tools, rakes, AND his pickup.  We loaded his pickup three times, and he delivered to the dump grounds.  We could not have done it without Him! Thank you, Richard.  This week, we focused on the fence in the bank parkinglot. We’d hoped to slap on a quick paint, however, it has many places where the paint is totally pealing off again.  So, Sharon Ebach, Carol Worthey and son TJ, Ellen Huffman, Kelli Clifton, Lisa Laukner and her children Bo and Zoe scraped, painted & mended fence.  I was priviledged to work with TJ Worthey.  We were quite the fence repair team.  The weather has been extra cooperative to get these clean up projects near completion.  I’m very proud our how our town looks, thanks to all the Minnewaukan Beautification Volunters!  I can’t wait for the day we purchase plants for the flower beds and pots :)

School coops

April 29th, 2010 by horizons

The Minnewaukan School is going through big changes in our sports coops. We were dropped from bb coops with Leeds by the Leeds School Board and with the late notice we are scrambling to find a place for our students to play. With limited numbers we are exploring coops with Devils Lake and Four Winds. Both schools have gone out of their way to invite us into coop agreements and hopefully that will work for us. It will be a big change going into class A sports with Devils Lake but with their cooperation our kids will get an opportunity to play

Do you ever wonder

April 26th, 2010 by randy

Do you ever wonder what life will bring? I have been thinking of this often as I see our city struggling to stay alive and dry. It is hard to think about where to go or what to do. If only there were easy answers to all our questions. Please pray for our community as we struggle to stay safe and sound. I ask all those that can to be ready if assistance is needed. We have a great community with great people and let’s hope God will help us and let us stay. By Sherri Thompson

Community Garden

April 26th, 2010 by randy

Our plans for the community garden are underway. Raised beds have been built and will be ready for planting soon. Anyone wishing to help may contact Karyn Neve473-5411 or Claudette Carlson at 473-5595. A variety of vegetables and fruit will be planted with the hopes of volunteers helping to care for them. A water tank is available for watering. Those that help will reep the benefits. Extra produce grown will be given away to those that need it on Saturdays on main street. This will be a fun project and will help those that need it. The garden is located North of the softball diamond across the street from the playground. A fence will be put up so that deer and other animals will not harm the garden. By Sherri Thompson

Help is available

April 26th, 2010 by randy

As the water approaches our town there are many things that can happen. If anyone needs any assistance in anyway please call the city office. If you have a basement and need to get things up and out of the way, we can get individuals to help. The water is rising at a quick rate and if you do not have a sump pump in your basement you might want to get one put in. Some people who have never had problems with water in their basements are now finding out they need to have a sump pump to help manage the water. Any questions please call Sherri Thompson at 701-473-5657 or 5380 and I will gladly help. By Sherri Thompson

Water and more water

April 26th, 2010 by randy

What is going to happen to our little community by the big lake? The water is starting to surround our community and we need to figure out what to do. There are so many questions and no answers to this big problem. I am asking all those that can help our little town in anyway please come forward and offer some advice. An aerial picture was recently taken of Minnewaukan and it looks like an island almost. It is so unbelievable how the lake just keeps rising. There will be a meeting in Devils Lake on Monday May 3rd at the college so far but they are thinking of moving it to a bigger location as the plans are too have at least 2,000 people present when the governor and other officials are to come. Time is 11:00 am . If you can attend this meeting and show your support for our community it would be much appreciated. By Sherri Thompson
